If you thought that the names of some of these theme restaurants in
Hyderabad are unconventional, you should check out the interiors.
Surreal, nostalgic, trendy..many are the vibes you can enjoy at these
theme restaurants in Hyderabad. And having found them, we wondered how
it’d be if some equally unconventional characters were to visit
them..Let’s hear out what they might have to say.
You know what’s the most heart-breaking thing is?-It’s dreaming of becoming a film star and ending up becoming an accountant in a PR Firm. Senior Accountant. So, maybe it’s not so bad…
Besides, I sometimes go to Eatmore 70mm, this unique restaurant done up in a Bollywood theme. The posters on the walls are right from when I started dreaming of the silver-scree: Raaz, Bobby, Don..and they also have mannequins of many characters from movies. Visiting Eatmore is a consolation of sorts. And as if they read my mind they have these cute humorous one-liners abut food which make me laugh.
Not that I’d require any consolation. Of course, my wife is so chubby now she doesn’t look anything like the person I married and the kids are turning out to be far more than what I bargained for. Maybe it’s not the life of a film star but still, I’m not complaining. I mean, there’s Eatmore to visit, right? Seriously, I’m not complaining…

Sure, humans evolved from fish but do we give the ocean the respect
it deserves? I mean, living on a beach is the least we can do, right? I
tell this to my hubby all the time but he never listens, he revels in
the sounds and sights of the city. He’s one of the few people who
actually like the rush hour.
But it’s not to say that he doesn’t care about my feelings. He does take me to this cool beach-themed lounge from time to time. Aside from the beach-theme that helps you feel so relaxed, they serve some amazing sea food aside from the Chinese and North Indian cuisine. There are times in a marriage when you just got to love your hubby!

The first time I saw a train was when I was six years old. A long metal snake rushing past me while I stood on the platform handing onto my father’s hand. It was love at first sight. India is both the best and worst place to fall in love with trains- While it has the biggest railway network in the world, it also has some of the dirtiest, most congested trains in the world.
So, maybe I don’t feel like taking a train trip some times and yet the craving for entering a train remains. And when that craving coincides with craving for some good food, I go down to the Silver Metro-a restaurant with a a train theme. They even have a fake railway platform to make the ambience complete. And as for the food, you get great Mughal, Continental and Indian dishes.
Price: Rs. 750 for two people (approx.)
Time: 12 Noon to 3:30 PM, 7 PM to 11:30 PM

People always stereotype lovers of heavy metal music. They say that we are the brooding kind, who likes to dwell mentally on the dark and primitive side of things. They say that we are more suited for the jungles than the cities.
And when I went to Serengiti- a rainforest themed restaurant, with my cousin and he took a selfi with both of us, I kinda knew what was to come. The picture went viral among friends and family. Comments saying that I have found my natural habitat and the likes began to pour in. Sure I liked the place a lot. The waiters in hunters’ garb and the absolutely delicious non-veg they serve. Even the way the jungle theme is brought about in the restaurant is commendable.
But why this passion for stereotyping my kind? I know that my saying anything wouldn’t change anything. That people are going to continue believing that I went to Serengeti because I love the jungles more than the city. For their information, I love a rock concert far more than the office. But I don’t think that makes me any more ‘primitve’ than anyone who listens to mushy songs fit for worms!

Nobody knows it but I’m the re-incarnation of a king of an earlier
era. And by earlier I mean really really early. From a time when humans
lived in caves. And if you thought that there were no such things as
kings back then, how wrong you are! Just because we didn’t write things
down doesn’t mean we didn’t exist.
Anyway, I see that things have changed a lot in the world. I don’t even see any woolly mammoths anymore, not even when I visited this place called a zoo where they have a variety of other animals. So I was kind of feeling a little out of place, like living in an era in which I don’t belong when I discovered this place called Gufaa. Perfect cave-like ambience-the dim light and the small waterfall are just too awesome, as the kids of this era would say. And their biryani is awesome. By the way, I must say that biryanis are something I wished we invented in my previous life. My mouth wells up when I imagine how grand a woolly mammoth biryani would have tasted like.

Whenever I teach history at school, I see a lot of children feeling sleepy. I don’t think I’m so boring a teacher(secretly, I balme the syllabus which is all about the students mugging up as much information as they can). It’s only the girls who stay with eyes wide open. Maybe difference in hormones helps the girls stay awake during history lessons:)
Anyway, the other day I dined out with my friends at this place called 1857. The restaurant has a theme of British Raj. Very simple but beautiful. And, yes, sophisticated too. You can choose your food from Continental, Thai, Mediterranean and Chinese cuisine. The cocktails were too good and there’s a nice outdoor seating area which gives you a good view of the world outside.
All in all, I had a great time. If only I could make my lessons as much interesting for my students..
Price: Rs. 1000 for two people (approx.)
Time: 6 PM to 11 PM
Address: Ohri’s Jalavihar, Adjacent to Jalvihar Entertainment Pvt. Ltd., Necklace Road, Hyderabad
As an interior designer who’s heard a lot about this award winning restaurant, I have been wanting to visit there for quite a while now. But I only got a chance last week, and I must say that it’s worth it. The small-town themed design of the place is simply superb and lived up to the hype. The auto rickshaw styled cubicles are a really fun idea and the food is not a let down either. And the service, unlike with many restaurants, is fast.
But what I have in mind now is a hope that I’d get to design some place as cool as this.

All kids are supposed to like trains. But I don’t like them. I think trains are ugly-they make a lot of noise and look like metal cages in which people are put in, like animals in the zoo, only these cages move.
But there’s this one train which I really like. Well, it’s not exactly a train in the regular sense but one that stands on the rail beside the platform in a platform-themed restaurant. It’s really beautiful, and fun because you get to eat either inside the train or on the platform. I never thought I’d ever say this but I had a great time inside a train, even though it’s not a train that moves.
Price: Rs. 1100 for two people (approx.)

So, yes, I’ m a hard core movie buff. I eat three meals and watch an equal number of movies every day. And Ramesh Sippy’s ‘Sholay’ is one film I would actually love to live in. You don’t know how much I want to take a gun and fight those evil dakus.
For the time being though, I’m settling for eating at this Sholay theme based restaurant. Amazing artworks of Bacchan and Dharmendra adorn the walls while the tandoori chicken that I ordered was simply delicious. As I sat there munching on the fleshy chicken I could feel myself itching to lay my hand on those dakus, hoping one of them would walk in the door. But this is not that kind of a place, this is a friendly place to have a nice nigh out with your pals. An ode to the friendship portrayed in the movie.
Price: Rs. 900 for two people (approx.)
Time: 7 AM to 11 PM

2. Village
Theme: Rural India
What’s this world coming to? All that the cities have given us are pollution, and yes-the mini skirts. But I’m telling you, nothing beats the life in a village, so calming to the nerves and ennobling the heart. There’s this restaurant called Village. They seem to know what I am talking about. They have a whole lot of amazing veg dishes inspired by authentic Indian cuisines. And these guys are very thoughtful-which is how villagers are unlike urban dwellers who don’t really care about anyone else. The restaurant people are thoughtful because they cared to add some lovely touches like fortune-telling by an astrologer and colourful bangles the kind of which are found in the village melas.
